The feast of AI news remains remarkably full, week after week. Last letter: AI vision vans, Stable Animation & a Baz Lurman cameo. This week…

• Adobe announces Generative Fill (from @focused.instability)

• This viral demo of a drag-a-GAN interface for modifying images using AI on the fly (from @focused.instability)

• Microsoft will ID AI-generated art // Activision Blizzard creates Blizzard Diffusion, an in-house AI generator trained on their own assets (from @barbara.chira.ai.art)

• A measured analysis of the outcome of the Warhol fair use case, which has relevance for AI artistry (from @barbara.chira.ai.art)

• If you don’t already, would recommend taking a peek at Midjourney’s office hours notes. A glimpse of where the state of the art is headed. For example: text-to-3D, Adobe vs Midjourney training data, future drawing tools and more.

I was chatting with @barbara.chira.ai.art over the weekend. She’s a professional artist and former professor with an interesting (and ever-evolving) take on AI art. Figured I’d share…

“As a professional artist, I've come to realize that the baggage I carry from art school and the contemporary art world, along with personal experiences, not only influence, but can hinder, my creative process… AI art generators lack personal memories and emotional filters. So using AI feels like a vacation for my psyche. Relief and respite from my own thoughts and mental burdens.”
